6. I have protection for Safe Travel!!!

The St Christopher has arrived!

Bear with me - I am not particularly religious (although I do believe in fate) – but I am sure you will be touched by this story!

I was beginning to think that my trip was jinxed before I even left! Instead, I am now feeling happy that there are some real lovely people out there... and I hope to meet a few more of them!

Birthday

As a birthday gift - Glenys (my X's gran who has been like a Gran to me for the last decade) wrote me a very lovely letter saying that she has travelled with a St Christopher for over 60 years - and it has kept her safe all that time.

If I was to go travelling, I should have one too - to keep me safe.

In fact, I should have hers...

Hers was 40 years old at the time she received it from another well travelled relative... therefore it had protected the family for about a century!

Wow! I was of course very touched...
What a very lovely gesture
Glenys didn't need to do this!

Then I looked in the envelope... the St Christopher was not in the envelope!

It transpires that it had been taken / broken / somehow fallen out of the envelope on the 3 mile journey from Glenys house to mine (via the post office).

Gutted. Absolutely gutted. (This is why I was thinking the trip was jinxed! The item that was meant to keep me safe had been stolen / broken or lost! Bodes well! Fate trying to tell me something?)

With little hope of the antique jewel showing up again, I set about hunting it down in the postal system... my efforts were futile. So, with hopes fading, I sent off a last ditch attempt email to the head of the Post Office in hope that he might help...

To my suprise, within a day, I had a personal response from Adam Crozier, which was followed up by a call from the lovely Elaine from his office. I must say - that was highly un-expected & refreshing!

During the day, Elaine took some details from me & had a good chat with Glenys!

The next day, a parcel arrived to Glenys & a letter from Elaine (a personal letter & not standard Post Office Issue).

The letter explained that enclosed was a 60 Year Old St Christopher that her gran had left her. As it had no sentimental value to her - she wanted for Glenys to accept it and to pass it on.

How lovely is that.

How often do we find strangers who are willing to do something so selflessly for us?
When was the last time you did something really nice for a stranger?

I honestly can't remember if I have- but I will make a special effort on my St Christopher protected travels - to do something thoughtful & unexpected for a stranger!

I hope you do too!

To all travellers: Safe Journey!

To Elaine & Glenys, your kind and thoughtful nature are very refreshing... I hope to meet many more people like you on the road!
